The government's review of the Comcast Corp.-NBC Universal merger is ongoing, but Comcast has dramatically scaled back its lobbying efforts. Spending for the third quarter was $1.86 million, a $2 million dropoff from the previous quarter.
But what it lacked in quantity, the company made up for in quality.
Comcast hired Capitol Hill Strategies LLC to lobby for the deal. Among its lobbyists is Paul Bock. Bock spent 12 years as chief of staff for Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Herb Kohl. Kohl is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee's subcommittee on antitrust. The senator has been pushing a long list of concessions the company would have to make to receive his support of the deal.
Bock’s last day in Kohl’s office was Aug. 31, 2009, according to a Kohl staffer. To access his bio, go here.
