Previous report: Schumer says stimulus money should go to U.S. firms
Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., has written Energy Secretary Steven Chu urging him "to reject any request for stimulus money unless the high-value components, including the wind turbines, are manufactured in the United States."
In his letter, dated Nov. 5, 2009, Schumer said, Congress intended that stimulus grants boost American industry. "Yet a recent report by Russ Choma at the Investigative Reporting Workshop highlights the shocking fact that 84 percent of the $1.05 billion in clean-energy grants distributed by the U.S. government since September 1st have gone to foreign wind companies," the letter says.
